Making Privilege and Power Visible

Referring to the sterotypes that Hill Collins examines in Chapter Four, (mammies, matriarchs, the welfare mother, the Black lady/middle-class professional, the hoochie) what examples can you find of how American society mis-represents black women's bodies and sexual identities? describe in your posts what the stereotypes are as you see them, and consider their impact on all of us who view them.

Some of the mis-representations that I have noticed about the bodies of black women are that they are all physical. Its all about the sexual aspect of their lives. I think that this is caused by the large amounts of rap videos with women portraying themselves sexually. It has huge impact because people are only seeing one aspect of the black woman. A great amount of people think that it is all about the "booty" or " grinding" or anything that is sexual. The only solution is that there should be less focus on the phsyical of the black woman, and more so about who they are mentally and emotionally.
